No Greater Desire

April 25, 2007

I am finding so much joy in reading "The Pursuit of God" by A.W. Tozer! I recommend this book highly! It speaks of a journey that I have already discovered myself from other authors, but in a language that is so beautiful... wow! And I have found quite a few nuggets that have broadened my understanding of my wonderful God and this life of Christianity. I would like to put a few excerpts from the book in this blog.

Preface

"The Bible is not an end in itself, but a means to bring men to an intimate and satisfying knowledge of God, that they may enter into Him, that they may delight in His Presence, may taste and know that inner sweetness of the very God Himself in the core and center of their hearts."

Chapter 3 Removing the Veil

"Frederick Faber['s love] for the Person of Christ was so intene that it threatened to consume him. It burned within him as a sweet ad holy madness and flowed from his lips like molten gold. In one of his sermons he says,

Wherever we turn in the church of God, there is Jesus. He is the beginning, middle and end of everything to us.... There is nothing good, nothing holy, nothing beautiful, nothing joyous which He is not to His servants. No one need to be poor, because, if he chooses, he can have Jesus for his own property and possession. No one need be downcast, for Jesus is the joy of heaven, and it is His joy to enter into sorrowful hearts. We can exaggerate about many things; but we can never exaggerate our obligation to Jesus or the compassionate abundance of the love of Jesus to us. All our lives long we might talk of Jesus, and yet we should never come to an end of the sweet things that might be said of Him. Eternity will not be long enough to learn all He is, or to praise Him for all He has done, but then, that matters not; for we shall be always with Him, and we desire nothing more."

"God is so vastly wonderful, so utterly and completely delightful that He can, without anything other than Himself, meet and overflow the deepest demands of our total nature, mysterious and deep as that nature is. Such worship ... can never come from a mere doctrinal knowledge of God. Hearts that are "fit to break" with love for the Godhead are those who have been in the Presence and have looked with opened eye upon the majesty of Deity."

"We hear the Bridegroom say, "Let me see thy countenance, let me hear thy voice; for sweet is thy voice, and thy countenance is comely" (Song of Solomon 2:14)"

Chapter 4 Apprehending God

"Always a living Person is present, speaking, pleading, loving, working and manifesting Himself whenever and wherever His people have the receptivity necessary to receive the manifestation."

"...God will become to us the great All, and His presence the glory and wonder of our lives."

I am currently reading chapter 6 and just enjoying myself immensely. If I quoted everything I'd be on here all day!

Suffice it to say that there is no greater joy or desire in life than pursuing God with your whole heart. And He is VERY NEAR! He DESIRES communion and relationship with us. Draw nigh to God and he will draw nigh to you. He's just waiting for us to show Him that we want Him in our lives. He is most desirable! Most lovely! Most wonderful!

Love HIM! KNOW Him!
